Garand matches

The Garand was a military rifle used in WWII and is now considered a vintage military rifle. Because the CMP was intended to prepare civilians for military service, good marksmanship was encouraged and supported by the US Congress. This match introduces shooters to the Across-the-Course match format. The matches have evolved to allow many other military issued rifles including Garands, M1 Carbines, 1917 Enfield, M14s, AR15s plus many other foreign rifles used by military services in WW1 and WW2.

This match counts as qualified marksmanship activity and allows people the purchase firearms such as M1’s and other surplus firearms (when available) from the CMP. Bayou Rifles is a CMP Club.

The course of fire is at 200 yards and is shot in 4 stages:

  • Slow Fire Prone – 20 Shots – 25 minutes
  • Rapid Fire Prone – 10 Shots – 80 Seconds
  • Rapid Fire Sitting – 10 Shots – 70 Seconds
  • Slow Fire Standing – 10 Shots – 10 Minutes

Steel Fun Shoot

The Fun Shoots are based upon "The Steel Challenge" and USPSA competitions. Most shoots consist of four steel stages using Steel challenge targets and two stages based upon USPSA. For more information on these types of shoots see Steel Challenge Info and USPSA Info. This event is a great way to start in an organized sport young or old. All you need is a Pistol, a couple of magazines, and about 200-250 rounds of ammunition.  Rim fire or any non-magnum handgun works.

Bullseye Pistol

Bullseye shooting is a competition for firing a pistol with one arm (sometimes called off hand shooting) at targets from 25 yards to 50 yards over a specified timed period. The name has evolved now to Precision Pistol Shooting. The competitions are sanctioned by both the NRA and CMP Marksman programs.A very brief overview is as follow: the slow fire portion is 90 shots fired at a distance of 50 yards with a time period of 10 minutes to fire each10 shot string, the timed fire portion is 90 shots fired at a distance of 25 yards with a time period of 20 seconds to fire each 10shot string, and the rapid fire portion is 90 shots fired at a distance of 25 yards with a time period of 10 seconds to fire each 10 shot string. The guns that are used are a .22, any center fire pistol, and a .45 pistol.Recently both the NRA and CMP have allowed for a category of “.22 only” competition. The guns may have iron sights or optic sights on them (although “red dot’ sights are usually preferred). The targets begin by facing perpendicular to each shooter and all will all turn to face each shooter at the same time and turn away from each shooter at the same time when the allotted time has expired, so all times are equal for each shooter.
